In 1862, Stonewall Jackson's forces surrounded Harpers Ferry, with Bolivar Heights becoming the center of the Union defense, as the fighting returned.
Then, in 1863, artillery fire struck Bolivar and damaged civilian homes and through those turbulent years, this brick home stood along Washington Street.
